About the Role:
As a Chef, you will lead kitchen operations, create high-quality dishes, and support menu planning while mentoring junior staff. You’ll play a key role in delivering an exceptional dining experience and ensuring food safety standards are met.
Responsibilities:
- Set up the kitchen each day, ensuring all cooking utensils, equipment, and workstations (e.g., knives, pans, kitchen scales) are clean, organised, and ready for service.
- Review and interpret recipes, prepare mise en place, and gather all required ingredients before service.
- Prepare and cook menu items efficiently and in a timely manner during service periods.
- Delegate tasks to kitchen staff and supervise Cooks, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Communicate daily specials and menu changes to waitstaff to ensure seamless service.
- Ensure all dishes are plated to high standards of presentation, flavour, and portion consistency.
- Adapt and modify recipes to accommodate customer preferences or dietary requirements (e.g., reduce salt, remove dairy).
- Monitor inventory levels, check freshness and quality of ingredients, rotate stock, and discard expired products.
- Assist with placing orders and maintaining adequate food stock to support smooth kitchen operations.
- Experiment with new recipes, suggest new ingredients, and contribute creative ideas to menu planning.
- Uphold strict compliance with workplace health, safety, and food hygiene regulations within the kitchen area.
Requirements:
- 1 – 3+ years experience in casual dining environment
- Certificate III, IV in Commercial Cookery, or Diploma in Hospitality.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations.
